Awesome tattoo. It's so important to remember we're going to die one day and use memento mori into our everyday lives. I think we'd all appreciate our relationships more and have stronger priorities in life. Thanks for writing this, Justin!

Excellent post. It reminds me that we have talked about trying out the Death Over Dinner conversations: https://deathoverdinner.org/ I'd like to give it a try.

As I get older, I occasionally contemplate how much time I have left in this life. As a result, I'm more likely to stop reading a disappointing book and more likely to work on things that will make life easier for my loved ones after I'm gone.

I also believe that we find some profound insight into life and earn gratitude for it by contemplating or even flirting with death. The Stoics have an exercise called Premeditatio Malorum that encourages this. And that's a badass tattoo, btw! I intend to get my own some day.

Thanks Erik! Interesting and very true. I think I may have come across that Stoic exercise listening to the historian William B. Irvine who’s written a lot on Stoicism. Great stuff!
